A Useful, But Imperfect, AI Marketing Tool
Google Labs has recently released a new experimental AI Marketing tool called Pomelli. You’re probably tired of experts asking you to check out yet another AI tool.
But hear me out…
Pomelli by Google Labs and DeepMind might actually be worth it.
First, it’s free in the current public beta phase. Second, it doesn’t take long to try it (altogether I spent about 30 minutes with it on the campaign I’m about to demonstrate below).
What is Pomelli and How Can You Try It?
Pomelli isn’t just another text-generation bot. Its core feature is what Google calls a “Business DNA” profile.
Instead of you feeding it brand guidelines, Pomelli scans your website – analyzing your copy, tone of voice, color palettes, fonts, and existing imagery. From this scan, it builds a foundational profile of your brand’s identity.
The goal is to solve the biggest problem with most AI content: it’s generic. Pomelli uses your “Business DNA” to generate campaign ideas, social media posts, ad copy, and other assets that are (in theory) already aligned with your brand from the first draft.

Using Pomelli was actually pretty easy, although it definitely required human oversight. The workflow is simple:
- Feed It Your Website URL: You start by giving Pomelli your website address. It takes a few minutes to scan your site and build that “Business DNA” profile.
- Refine your profile. Inline with every AI tool experience I’ve ever had, Pomelli got parts of my brand profile wrong in its automatic scan. You’ll need to fix the various elements and polish your profile.
- Generate Campaign Ideas: Once you’ve built your “Business DNA” profile, you can now use it to suggest and generate tailored campaigns. You can also feed it your own goals or prompts (e.g., “Promote our new dental implant offer for new patients on social media.”).
- Generate & Refine Assets: From there, it generates a variety of marketing assets – social posts, banners, headlines, etc. Again, you’re going to spend a bit of time refining these assets because Pomelli will likely get it wrong. Fortunately, the tool includes built-in editors to let you tweak the text, change images, and refine the copy before you export the final product – all with the assistance of AI if you so desire.
My First Test: A Social Media Post About Business Growth Using Digital Marketing
So, does it work?
I put it to a real-world test: creating a single social media post for my business, promoting how SMBs can achieve business growth through our data-driven digital marketing services.
From logging in, setting up my profile, to having several downloadable assets, the entire process took about 30 minutes.
Not bad. If I had done such a campaign manually, it would’ve taken me 3-4 hours.
Is the campaign good?
That’s something you can ultimately decide for yourself. Here’s my opinion on it anyway:
It’s not going to win any awards. On the other hand, with today’s demand to constantly be producing new content, this particular campaign represents the brand professionally and authentically.
Here’s the 4 social media images it generated for me – which will be released as a single post:

Final Verdict: A Powerful Copilot, Not an Autopilot
My first impression of Pomelli is that it’s a powerful accelerator. It’s not going to replace a skilled marketer, but it is an exceptional “copilot.”
It successfully handles some of the most time-consuming parts of content creation – the initial brainstorming, layout, and drafting. This frees up professionals to focus on the high-value work: strategy, refinement, and ensuring the message truly connects.
AI tools like Pomelli are incredible time-savers and can be a fantastic asset for getting ideas off the ground. But as my test showed, they still require a human hand on the wheel to guide, refine, and strategically align the content.
If you’re a business owner who would rather focus on running your business than editing AI drafts, a fully managed solution from devEdge Internet Marketing might be the right fit. For a professional, hands-off approach to your digital marketing, my agency is here to help.
